Participants

We sought the perceptions of men and women aged over 55 years, living in four specific regions that represent high density urban, low density urban or suburbia, regional, and rural living environments in Australia. Residents of high density Brisbane who had participated in our previous liveability research (see High Density Liveability Guide) and were willing to be contacted for future research, were invited to participate as representatives of high density living environments. For the remaining three regions, key organisations and groups were approached to assist in identifying potential participants. These individuals were then contacted via phone and/or email and invited to participate. A total of 49 residents (24 males and 25 females) participated, ranging in age from 56 to 93 years (average age of 72 years).
